Karl was born and raised in Vancouver. He has been working in hair for over 20 years, and specializes in blonding and texturing techniques. He has a dog named lola who bites.

Stylist (she/her/they)
Sara graduated from JCI in 2021 and lives for lived-in looks, balayage, beautiful blondes, and a good bob. As a natural introvert she loves her two cats, rom-coms, and reading. She’s lovely.
Tara Chow

Tara might live in the suburbs with her kid and husband, but she still maintains an eye for style, and can keep up with the best of them when it comes to fashion and hair trends. Once a student of Karl and Katie’s she now runs the show.
Katie Johnston
Founder & Stylist (she/her)
Katie has been doing hair since 2004 and is known for her signature blondes and lived in balayage. She has twin boys and a lovely British Husband.

From the rolling hills of Scotland, Andrew has over 20 years of experience, including 8 years working on hair in film and television. Come say hi to our most charming stylist and his equally charming schnoodle—Angus!
Jocelyn Jones

Recent JCI graduate Jocelyn is the newest and most stylish member of the Happy Birthday team. She admires dynamic, playful shapes and is a sucker for a good fringe. Outside the salon you can find her enjoying new music, an intense card game, or a good cup of coffee.
